Questions

Emergency Callouts FAQs

Straight answers to what people ask us most about this service.

Are you really available 24/7?

Yes. We take emergency callouts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including nights, weekends and public holidays. Call us and we'll tell you honestly how soon we can get to you.

What should I do first in an electrical emergency?

If there is fire, smoke, or someone has been shocked, call 000 immediately. If it's safe to do so, switch off the affected circuit at the switchboard. Don't touch damaged wiring or fittings, and don't attempt a repair yourself.

The power is out at my place — is that an electrical fault?

Not always. If the power is out across your street it's likely a network outage rather than a fault inside your property. Checking your distributor's outage page first can save you a callout — we've listed the Melbourne distributors on this site.

Is a burning smell from the switchboard serious?

Treat it as serious. A burning or hot plastic smell usually indicates overheating at a connection, which is a genuine fire risk. Switch off the main switch if it's safe to reach, and get an electrician to it.
